Women’s Rights Group

The Women’s Rights Group hosted its first event in 2015, welcoming lawyers from The Gambia and Uganda to speak on public interest litigation in their countries. Since then, Lawyers Against Poverty has funded strategic litigation in the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice in relation to violence against women, supported campaigns and hosted events focused on using the law to promote women’s rights. The group is currently re-developing our Legal Confidence Programme to support survivors of domestic violence to help them to build an independent life after escaping abuse. Members of the group host regular meetings, hear from external speakers and contribute to the Lawyers Against Poverty blog.
